Comment: In the book Esperanza Rising, the main character Esperanza had to accept Martha even though she was mean. Esperanza tolerated her even when she threatened her for not joining the farmer’s strike. Martha told Esperanza to watch out. She made fun of Esperanza and criticized her often. Martha got separated from her mother and needed a friend. Esperanza accepted Martha as a friend and did not hold a grudge. Esperanza was nice and helped Martha find her mother. By the end of the story they were great friends and they helped each other.

Comment: bullying is a very big problem around the world. it can happen at school or even on the internet. it can lead to to people hurting others or even themselves. kids usually bully because they are lonely, have problems at home, or have been bullied themselves.when kids bully it can turn the victims to bullying others or even hating themselves. for example a boy named julian was being continually bullied at school. his family moved him from school to school until one time he said he liked the school. then 2 months later his family found him dead after he hung himself in his room.

Comment: Bullying takes place everywhere such as in school, in neighborhoods, even on the streets. It is a problem because it is affecting too many kids in the nation. It is an issue because a lot of kids drop out of schools, commit suicides, or kill others, and it is starting to get really bad. There is cyber bullying, verbal bullying, physical bullying, sexual bullying and more. Once, a 11 year old boy tried to commit suicide after being bullied over being a fan of My Little Pony. Often times children are not accepted because of their differences.

Comment: Bullying is something that happens a lot. There are 4 types of bullying, verbal,

Non-verbal, cyber and physical bullying. When you are being bullied victims are often shy and tend to be physically weaker than the person who’s bullying them. For example if the bully calls you a name which is verbal bullying, the victim is most likely not to do anything about it the peer is taking its anger out on you which would make he/she the bully. Bullying can happen anywhere at any time. People can be bullied for various reasons, for example their height, looks, race or even just because someone wants to bully them. Being bullied is a big problem and can affect you a lot. Bullying can make you less confident or make you feel sad. Bullying is a big problem in our society today and it can affect anyone at any age.

Comment: I learned about forgiveness from Esperanza rising. Esperanza forgives Marta even though Marta was always mean to her. Esperanza helped Marta by disguising Marta look as a worker because there were immigration officers deporting strikers. Marta was a striker and if the immigration officers saw her, they would have taken her back to Aguascalientes. Marta would have been separated from her mother. Esperanza knew how it felt like to lose a parent because she lost her dad.I learned from Esperanza to always forgive others in tough times.

Comment: I learn about accepting others in Breaking Through. Laura accepts Francisco even though he is Mexican. In the book, Francisco tells Laura he is Mexican and Laura responds that it’s okay. She doesn’t care that his skin color is darker and that he is a different race. Her acceptance makes him very happy.

Comment:I agree with Alina W. she said that bullying can happen anywhere. This is true because it can happen in school on the streets and even over the internet. Many people get bullied by people they have never met.People get bullied because they are different. For example in the book Bruiser the character is always left out since he is different.

Comment: Bullying is a problem that kids should not have to tolerate. Bullying is aggressive behavior. Kids who bully use their power to control or hurt other kids. In this nation, 20 percent of kids experience bullying. Many of them avoid school because they do not want to get picked on. Bullying can happen anywhere, even including the Internet. Bullying can threaten a child’s safety and their ability to learn. Schools can help by creating a a culture of acceptance, tolerance and respect.

Comment: People bully because they lost someone, something happen in their life, or for fun. Verbal Bullying leads to Cyberbullying. To stop bullying, people speak up, fight back, or don’t respond to them. Cyberbullying is used the most. 5th- 8th students are sometimes bullied. For example, in “Tuesday of the Other June”, June spoke up to Other June after she was called names.

Topic: Tolerance

Comment: I think Nataly H. has a great paragraph on Esperanza Rising because it talks about forgiveness like she says. Like how Esperanza helps Marta with getting her mother back because of the immigration officers.Even though they weren’t friends in the beginning Esperanza then she forgave her because she felt bad like Nataly says in her paragraph about Esperanza and Marta’s relationship.

Comment: I learned that bullying is a widespread problem that can occur anywhere, but mostly is possible in school and among young people. There are three types of bullying and they are all very hurtful. Some types of bullying are defined by law as civil rights offenses. Some bullies are obvious: they are physically strong and are known for beating up the victims. Bystanders usually don't want to get involved anywhere in the situation. And the greater number the bystanders, the less of the chance that somebody will stop the bully and speak up.

Comment:I agree with Nataly H.She said that it was good that Esperanza forgave Marta even though she was mean. This shows that Esperanza had good tolerance. I think everybody should act like this because people don't always mean what they do.People who are tolerant might have been bullied or bullied before. If you have been a bully you know why some people might do it.

Comment: I agree with you Alina W. Bullying is a big problem in different states or countries. So many people are bullied today. Verbal-bullying is used more often. That would lead to cyberbullying. That would lead to suicide.
